Additional SubDAO formation

SubDAO formation pathway

There may come a time where the formation of a new Core SubDAO responsible for leading alternate activities may be a best route. At such a time a subcommittee member or members decide the formation a new SubDAO will be beneficial to the organisation, a process for the creation of an additional SubDAO is as follows

  1. Development: The relevant subcommittee member(s) develop a proposal outlining the new Core SubDAO, it's requirements, suggestions for subcommittee members, etc

  2. Submission: Once the proposal has been developed and has passed a vote by the subcommittee for submission, it is presented to the remaining Core SubDAOs for commentary via the governance forum. In the commentary phase the remaining Core SubDAOs add any commentary or adjustments they wish to see made to the proposal prior to a vote being undertaken.

  3. Approval / Denial: The Core SubDAO that has submitted the additional formation proposal may choose to enact or not enact adjustments to the proposal, to the degree they feel is necessary to pass the vote of the remaining Core SubDAOs. Once any (if any) adjustments are made the process then moves to a final vote whereby each SubDAO subcommittee votes to approve or deny the funding. In order to achieve successful funding each Core SubDAO subcommittee first votes internally to approve or deny the proposal, with the proposal passing if it achieves the approval threshold.

  4. Formation: If the vote passes the approval threshold a new Core SubDAO subcommittee is formed. The subcommittee must then proceed to develop their initial funding mandate as stipulated in the funding mechanics section prior to receiving funding .

Initial subcommittees

If a newly formed SubDAO is to be a Core SubDAO, it cannot exist without a subcommittee. Therefore in the proposal or submission phase the existing subcommittee members, must put forth and secure commitment from the relevant parties they wish to elect to the subcommittee. The existing subcommittees will be responsible for allocating the initial 3 members of the new subcommittee. If the Core SubDAO formation passes the approval threshold there will be a window within which community members are able to submit proposals for candidates they wish to see elected to the subcommittee.

Budget

As the work required to create a new SubDAO, secure interest and source candidates requires much time. This budget will be a component of the contributor stipend, and is considered to be a component of the budget allocated to the all subcommittees, as opposed to additional works with their own budget.

Winding down a SubDAO

In the event a SubDAO is no longer required, the format to wind down the SubDAO follows the same pattern as the additional SubDAO formation process.
